Another Frenchman who ‘plants’ Madrid: Ancelotti’s wish decided to renew with his club

It seems that the real Madrid and the French strikers are not doing well in the transfer market. After Kylian Mbappé, now another French attacker has decided to say ‘yes’ to his current club despite the ‘siren songs’ of the European champions. Carlo Ancelotti had asked to reinforce his forward Christopher Nkunku; however, the footballer preferred to renew with the RB Leipzig.

The French striker renewed with the German club for two more seasons until 2026, as reported by the Bundesliga cast itself on Thursday, putting an end to speculation about his possible departure in the summer.

We are proud and happy to have been able to retain one of the best players in the world at this time. There are few players who can match Christo’s speed, talent and mentality.”, explained the technical director, Christopher Vivell after the announcement of the renewal.

For his part, the French international showed his joy at extending his contract with Leipzig. “After our great achievement in winning the German Cup, it became clear that my story here is not over yet. I was very impressed by the club’s effort to retain me, so a big thank you to those responsible for the trust placed in me”, stated Nkunku.

The attacker reached RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2019 and has accumulated 93 goal appearances in 134 official matches. Last season he broke the record for goals in a season, a record held by German Timo Werner, by directly participating in 54 goals, and he was also named the best player in the Bundesliga.

As well as helping the club win the first DFB-Pokal trophy in its history, Nkunku was also part of the team that reached the semi-finals of the Champions League (2019/20) and Europa League (2021/22). Also, the attacker made his debut as a French international in March 2022, with two assists in four games for his country.

Real Madrid attentive

Mbappé’s fright converted Nkunku in one of the possible objectives of Madrid to reinforce the squad in this transfer market for the 2022-23 campaign. What’s more, several Real Madrid advisers recommended it to Florentino Pérez.

But now, after the renewal, Madrid or any other club that wants him will have to pay the clause, which amounts to 60 million euros. An affordable amount for the big European teams, who will wait for the World Cup in Qatar to assess their performance.
