Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay present their candidacy for the 2030 World Cup

Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay made official this Thursday the dream of hosting the World Cup 2030 resorting to the centenary of the first FIFA World Cup, held in Uruguay in 1930. Government and sports authorities ratified his political and soccer decision.

“Today we have made the political and sporting decision to relaunch the possibility of holding the 2030 World Cup in South America, and in these four countries,” confirmed at a press conference the Vice President of Paraguay, Hugo Velázquez.

“Our goal is to re-launch the intention of the four governments to carry out the 2030 World Cup, after the pandemic”Velazquez said.

The Vice President emphasized that the four countries of South America cannot compete in economic terms with the world powers and that, nevertheless, “What you want is to resort to history and above all, to what football represents for this part of the continent, so that the tournament is played in Paraguay, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay.”

Sports ministers and representatives of the four embassies met this Thursday in Asunción, capital of Paraguay, and submitted the application to the International Football Federation (FIFA).

“We are going to resort to the history of world football, that the first World Cup was in South America”he said referring to the competition held in Uruguay in 1930. He also mentioned that South America is the continent that “More exports the best players to the world.”

Likewise, Velázquez commented that the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) offered to finance the building needs, in case the proposal succeeds.

“We want to remind you that the first World Cup was in South America (in Uruguay in 1930) and that the continent that exports the best players in the world are South Americans”, remarked.

Velázquez said that the protagonists of the meeting, presidents of the soccer associations of the four countries, instructed the president of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez, “for this to come true”.
