Arsenal-Wolverhampton, new match postponed due to coronavirus cases

More outbreaks of coronavirus (COVID-19) and more games canceled in the Premier league. This Sunday, the English tournament confirmed that the duel between Arsenal and Wolverhampton, scheduled for Tuesday, has been suspended due to positive cases reported in the team of Mexican striker Raúl Jiménez.

“The Premier League Board accepted the request for postponement as the ‘Wolves’ do not have the required number of players available for the match (13 outfield players and one goalkeeper) as a result of several cases of COVID-19 and injuries in the club”says the official statement released while the Boxing Day took place.

It is the second match that the ‘Wolves’ will not play for causes related to the coronavirus. In this same week, the Premier League ruled on a series of contests shortly after the traditional Boxing Day. Then, on the side of those led by Bruno Lage, the clash against Watford did not occur.

For their part, Arsenal reported that three players from the first squad tested positive for coronavirus: the Portuguese Cedric Soares, the Japanese Takehiro Tomiyasu and the English Ainsley Maitland-Niles. However, Mikel Arteta’s team appeared at the Norwich City home and returned to London with three points after winning 5-0.

Arsenal-Wolves, second suspended

Leeds United announced this Sunday that its match with Aston Villa, corresponding to matchday 20 of the Premier League and scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed due to the late departure from isolation of its players who tested positive for COVID-19.

“Although we do not have any new cases of COVID-19 in our squad, most of the players who had tested positive before the game against Liverpool (already postponed) have not yet come out of isolation”explained the club led by Marcelo Bielsa.
