Xavi Hernández’s men, with 66 points, will mathematically qualify for next season’s Champions League group stage if they win, while Chilean Manuel Pellegrini’s men are almost obliged to do so in order not to distance themselves from Atlético de Madrid, from the three points separate it.

Barcelona coach, Xavi Hernández, defended the Barça team’s style on the eve of the visit to Benito Villamarín, where they will try to achieve a victory against Betis that would mathematically qualify them for the next Champions League.

“It would take us years to win otherwise. What I am clear about is that playing with this game model, five Champions have been achieved, many League titles and world recognition. You leave Spain and everyone remembers Guardiola’s Barça and Messi. They remember how it was played, more than what we won. I have no doubt. This is the way. At Barça there is no other”, he stated.

Xavi pointed out that Real Madrid’s DNA is “faith, believing in it” and that they are capable of coming back from any match. “But it would cost us more”, recognized the Catalan coach, who gave value to the 0-4 achieved at the Bernabéu this season.

“The difference between Madrid’s rivals in the Champions League and us is that we finished them off when we had the opportunity. Because history says that you cannot forgive Madrid for its life, because it ends up winning the game”, he recalled.

That 0-4, according to Xavi, should mark how the team will play “in the future” and he once again insisted on “how important it is to score the first goal in today’s football”. Also against Betis.

“Tomorrow we have a vital game, we can certify our qualification for the Champions League and we must go for it all”, recalled the Egarense coach, who expects “an opponent with a lot of confidence after the Cup title” and a crowd that will be “celebrating”.

“It is a team that has many very good individual players and is very hard-working. They already beat us at home and now we want revenge in their stadium”, he warned.

The Barcelona coach also confirmed that, at Villamarín, his team will make the champion’s corridor to Betis. “For us it is a sign of respect and sportsmanship. If we teach fans and children that there is no fair play in football, we would be making a mistake. In his day, as a player I made the corridor to Real Madrid and he had no problem”, he stated.

Against the Andalusian team, Xavi will be without defenders Gerard Piqué and Sergiño Dest or midfielders Sergi Roberto, Nico González and Pedri González, who are still injured. And he has the doubt of the goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.
