How to install Windows 11 [Insider Preview]

Learn how Windows Insider program users can install Windows 11 and find out if your PC is compatible

The Windows 11 is now available for users who are part of the program Windows Insider . Bringing some of the new features announced, the new operating system from Microsoft can be downloaded and installed in compatible machine with the upgrade. Here’s how to install Windows 11 on your computer.

Before the walkthrough, in order to have access to Windows 11, it is important to remember that the user needs to be part of Windows Insider. So, if you were already part of the program until June 24, 2021 , you will be able to install Windows 11 even if you have incompatible hardware .

If you are now entering the Microsoft test program, your computer must have a compatible processor and TPM 2.0 module . Let’s go to the tutorial.

How to install Windows 11


Keep in mind that this is a test version of Windows 11: that is, it can have constant bugs and instabilities, just so that Microsoft receives feedback from users. Because of this, avoid installing it on your main computer (or disk).

To download Windows 11, you must be currently using Windows 10 on your computer. So just follow these steps:

  1. Open your Windows 10 settings and go to “Privacy”;
  2. Then click on “Diagnostics and comments” and enable the option “Optional diagnostic data”;
  3. Return to the settings menu and click on “Update and Security”;
  4. Log in with your Windows Insider account (or create an account) and choose “Channel Dev” to receive the update;
  5. Next, go to the “Windows Update” tab and look for a new update. If it’s available for your account, you’ll see the Windows 11 Insider Preview installation.


Minimum requirements to run Windows 11


As stated before, to be able to install Windows 11 your computer must meet a series of minimum requirements. Check below what they are:

  1. Processor 1 GHz with two or more 64-bit cores;
  2. 4 GB of RAM ;
  3. 64GB of storage;
  4. HD screen (720p) larger than 9 inches;
  5. DirectX 12 or higher compatible graphics card or graphics chip with WDDM 2.0 driver ;
  6. Compatible with UEFI, Secure Boot and TPM (Trusted Platform Module) in version 2.0


How can I see if my PC is compatible?


Also, if you have questions about OS compatibility, Microsoft has released a tool called PC Health Check to check if your PC is compatible with the new update. See the step by step below.

  1. Download the PC Health Check software ;
  2. Install the program;
  3. When you open the tool, click on “Check Now” on the Windows 11 banner.


If everything is OK, a message will appear saying “This computer can run Windows 11”, as illustrated below. Otherwise, the problem may be related to BIOS settings with the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) security module.
