Carlo Ancelotti’s technical command is experiencing a moment of great concern, since the Real Madrid squad registered some cases of coronavirus (COVID-19). In the last hours, the club revealed on its official channels that Marcelo and Luka Modric tested positive in the last tests that were carried out.
“Real Madrid CF announces that our players Marcelo and Luka Modrić have tested positive for COVID-19″ Said the Spanish institution in a statement. Obviously, both athletes will comply with the health protocol that governs LaLiga Santander.
Regarding the case of the Croatian midfielder, it is clear that his absence will be news, since he is a permanent starter for Ancelotti. So far this season in the Spanish championship, the midfielder has 12 games in total and has assisted his teammates on four occasions. In addition, they played all six Champions League group stage games.
The situation is the opposite for Marcelo, who has long lost his title at Real Madrid and remains unregulated. The last time the Brazilian played for the club was on November 24, during the visit to Sheriff Tiraspol for the Champions League. In LaLiga, the winger has had three appearances, but has six consecutive matches appearing only as a substitute.
What games will Modric and Marcelo miss?
According to the LaLiga Santander calendar, Luka Modric and Marcelo could end the year without playing, depending on how long their recovery takes. Next Sunday, December 19, Real Madrid will host Cádiz at home and will close this part of the season by visiting Athletic Club de Bilbao (Wednesday 22).
