Thousands of people and fans can see it. A life-size statue of Diego Maradona was inaugurated on Wednesday, December 15 at the Ezeiza International Airport, the most important in Argentina. The sculpture takes as a reference the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, where the former footballer was captain and key to winning the title.
Anyone at the airport will be able to see and photograph the sculpture of the former soccer player, who in Argentina means much more than an athlete. The ‘Pelusa’ is one of the most beloved people in the history of the South American country.
“This statue is just a gesture of gratitude and tribute to a huge soccer player who gave infinite joy to Argentines and soccer lovers from all over the planet”, Affirmed the president of Airports Argentina 2000, Martín Eurnekian.
Before being exposed this Wednesday, Maradona’s ex-wife, Claudia Villafañe; his daughters, Dalma and Gianinna Maradona, and the player’s brother Raúl “Lalo” Maradona had visited the statue in an intimate act at the airport, before embarking on the Maradona Cup, which pitted Boca against Barcelona in Saudi Arabia, according to the operator statement.
The sculpture of 10 was made under the 3D printing technique from polyethylene terephthalate by digital artists and was colored with automotive paint, achieving the texture of a metallic monument.
The idea that Maradona had a statue in Argentina’s main airport, located in the province of Buenos Aires, dates back to the years-long relationship between the footballer and the founder of Airports Argentina 2000, Eduardo Eurnekian, recalls the signature in the statement .
