The New generation of Wi-Fi arrives for consumers in 2019; know what changes and understand how compatibility is
Wi-Fi 6 is the sixth generation of wireless networking technology that is expected to appear on the market from 2019. Adopting a nomenclature system that is easier to understand compared to the old name, which mixed numbers and letters, such as 802.11 ax, the technology promotes gains in performance and efficiency, promising speeds in the range of 12 Gb / s.

Compared to the previous technology, Wi-Fi 5 (based on 802.11 ac, launched in 2014), the new sixth-generation networks present important gains in performance. Another feature of this ability to better divide access is more accurate mapping of needs by the device. The new routers will be able to allocate a larger bandwidth to a TV working with 4K streaming, while offering lower rates for mobile phone at rest, for example.
MU-MIMO technology, which basically allows the exchange of information between devices on the same network to reduce delays, is also present on Wi-Fi 6. In the new generation, MU-MIMO will support up to eight different devices and will operate in download and upload operations.
All of these efficiency improvements are difficult to quantify in practice, as the best routers and network equipment will have greater scope for exploiting them than more affordable devices. The sum of these improvements should make Wi-Fi 6 a much better network technology adapted to environments with many connected devices, as is common today both in public spaces and in homes, for example.
